Monolith is a small practice in Copenhagen. We keep the studio deliberately narrow so the partners stay on every project, from the first walk of the site to the day the formwork comes off.
Philosophy
Mass is not weight for its own sake. It is permanence you can feel— a wall thick enough to hold the day’s heat, a roof that reads as one piece, a room that will outlast everyone who drew it.
We design against the disposable. That means fewer materials, chosen for how they age, and details that admit the building was made by hand. Board marks stay. Joints are shown, not hidden. The light does the decorating.
Concrete carries structure, surface and light at once. We rarely reach for a second skin.
A room is planned around the sun it will get. Artificial light only finishes what daylight begins.
How a thing is joined should be visible. The seam is part of the design, never a thing to cover.
We take few projects a year. Each gets the partners’ full attention from site to handover.
